Hasta luego, Merida.

So, I have been neglecting my blog for a bit. Our stay in Merida was amazing. What made it amazing was the people we met along the way. While the incredible sites, sounds, and tastes of all travel adventures provide the stimulation that makes globe trotting exhilirating, it is always the people that make you want to linger.

We had enjoyed our time in Merida, for the experience alone, but it is the friendships we made that make us want to come back for more. I hope to do that again sometime in the somewhat near future. Fortunately, David’s professional connections are now firmly forged. That may lead to more opportunity to travel back to Mexico. Who knows what the future may hold?

A marathon game of Mexican Train Dominoes spanning two evenings was so much fun!

David had some great success scanning Mangrove forests, various big trees in Merida, and even a ecologically sustainable parking lot a Modelo University. He used a laser scanner, complete with white spheres, which gave him tree wizard vibes. The scanner creates 3D models of trees, enabling accurate measurements and analysis, which is helpful for quantifying tree volume and above ground biomass. It can help in measure tree height and provide structural information, such as branch angles and diameters. This information can be used for better forest management, and assessing the impact of climate change.

We returned back to our home in Michigan as new grandparents. I soaked up all the time I possibly could with the little bundle of love and joy before I left to join David in Padova Italy, where I am writing from right now. Time for a new adventure! Ciao!
